Patent Scientist / Patent Agent


Kilpatrick’s Patent Prosecution team seeks a Patent Scientist or Patent Agent with a degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.

Backgrounds in Medical Sciences, Bioengineering, or Bioinformatics are desirable. Applicant must be detail oriented and have strong written and verbal skills. Proficiency in technical writing is a plus. Transcripts and writing samples will be requested. An exciting opportunity to be exposed to cutting-edge technology in a wide array of technical fields. Ideal for an enthusiastic scientist with accomplished writing skills, and an interest in being at the forefront of intellectual property law.

A Patent Scientist is a professional that will help prepare patent applications and responses to Office Actions from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Patent scientists work towards certification as Patent Agents that are licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Starting salaries are competitive with other industries.

Kilpatrick is seeking a USPTO registered Patent Agent in the Life Sciences. Ideal candidate would reside in CA, CO, DC, GA, IL, or NC and be available for in-office, remote, or hybrid work schedule. Applicant should have strong writing skills and relevant experience in Life Sciences patent prosecution is preferred. Applicant should have an advanced degree or commensurate experience; expertise in molecular biology is an asset. Candidates should have at least 3 years of direct patent prosecution experience. Applicant must be detail oriented and have strong written and verbal skills. Proficiency in technical writing is a plus. Transcripts and writing samples will be requested.

Expected salary range is $135,000-$225,000.

Government Relations Advisor (DC)

We are currently seeking a federal Government Relations Advisor to join our Government Relations and Regulatory team. The Government Relations Advisor will assist and work with the team to provide federal government relations and regulatory services to clients across various sectors. The position is Washington, DC based, and involve travel as necessary.

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring and researching legislative and regulatory developments of interest to clients.
  • Drafting memorandum, policy briefs, letters, talking points, and other materials for clients.
  • Drafting legislative alerts, articles, and political updates.
  • Attending Congressional hearings and drafting summaries of hearings.
  • Communicating, coordinating, and attending meetings with Congress as well as other political events in Washington, DC.
  • Assuming other legislative functions in support of clients.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required.
  2. A minimum of 3 years experience in the federal government, campaign or political fields, federal advocacy entity, or other related field.
  3. Strong understanding of the political and legislative process.
  4. Excellent verbal communication and writing skills.
  5. Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
